Night of museums at the Council of Europe (16 May 2009)

In 2006, Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, offered his patronage to "Night of museums," an event held simultaneously in the countries which have signed the European Cultural Convention.

He wished to encourage a broader audience, especially the younger generation and local people, to appreciate the rich assets of Europe's heritage.

The Council of Europe, which celebrated its 60th anniversary on 5 May, opens its main building, the Palais de l’Europe in Strasbourg, on Saturday 16 May from 6 p.m. to 1 am, as its contribution to this year's cultural celebration.

Visitors will be able to see a selection of art works given to the organisation by member and non-member states, regional and local authorities and artists.
