Micheline Calmy-Rey: "To send out a loud and clear political signal by tracing the path"

While underlining that the entry into force of Protocol 14 represented a big breath of air for the European Court of Human Rights, the Committee of Ministers' Chairperson insisted on the need to look beyond. "In Interlaken, on 18 and 19 February, the member States will need to send out a loud and clear political signal," she said and added that she counted on the co-operation and commitment of all states to achieve it.

She welcomed the Secretary General's draft reform of the Organisation and the full support of the Ministers' Deputies.

Mrs Calmy-Rey said she was happy to see the better co-operation between the Assembly and the Committee of Ministers and she relied on "the backing of the Assembly to effect the political and structural refocusing that will enable the Council of Europe to perform a strengthned, lasting role on the international scene".
