Kyiv: Parliamentary Assembly delegation to assess electoral framework ahead of presidential election

Strasbourg, 25.04.2014 – A seven-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), led by Andreas Gross (Switzerland, SOC), will carry out a pre-electoral visit to Kyiv on 29-30 April, ahead of the early presidential election in Ukraine on 25 May, to assess the electoral framework and campaign.

The delegation is due to meet, in particular, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada and Acting President of Ukraine, the Prime Minister, the Minister of the Interior, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.

Talks are also scheduled with the main candidates standing for election, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission and with representatives of the international community, NGOs and the media.

A full 52-member delegation from the Assembly will return to the country to observe the voting.

The delegation will issue a statement at the end of the visit on Wednesday 30 April.
