Secretary General Jagland: Ukrainian parliament should now have serious debate on how to end crisis

Strasbourg, 18 February 2014 - The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland, issued the following statement:

‘’I strongly condemn the renewed outbreak of violence in Kiev resulting in the loss of lives. I call upon all political forces in Ukraine to act responsibly and refrain from further violent actions. The Rada should now have a serious debate on how to end the crisis. The Council of Europe stands ready to assist Ukraine with its legal and constitutional experts’’.
