Roma-related events in Strasbourg and Marseille: Dosta! prize ceremony and cultural conference

Strasbourg, 28.10.2013 - Two major events aimed at promoting Roma culture, Roma role models and addressing stereotypes are taking place this week in Strasbourg and Marseille.

In Strasbourg the 2013 Dosta! Prize will be presented at a ceremony in the hemicycle of the Council of Europe’s main building, the Palais de l’Europe, at approximately 18h40 on 30 October, during the autumn session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe (29-31 October). The prize is awarded for innovative municipal projects promoting Roma integration, combating discrimination against Roma and raising awareness of Roma culture and rights.

30 October will also see the opening of a two-day international conference to promote the European dimension of Roma culture and a public discussion on deconstructing stereotypes against Roma. Co-organised by the European Alliance of Cities and Regions for Roma Inclusion, the Support Team of the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe for Roma Issues, the European Roma and Travelers Forum, the European Institute for Cultural Routes and the Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region (PACA), the event will take place at the Villa Méditerranée in Marseille, the 2013 European Capital of Culture.
