Secretary General Jagland on official visit to Greece
 

Strasbourg, 22.10.2013 – Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland is making an official visit to Greece from 22-23 October.

In Athens, Mr Jagland is holding bilateral meetings with Prime Minister of Greece Mr. Antonis Samaras, Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Evangelos Venizelos, Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights, Mr. Haralambos Athanassiou, President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Karolos Papoulias and the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Evangelos Meimarakis. He is also meeting Mr. Nikolaos Georgios Dendias, Minister of Public Order and Protection of Citizens.

In his meetings with Prime Minister Mr. Antonis Samaras and Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Evangelos Venizelos the Secretary General welcomed the recent steps taken by the Greek government to combat racism and political extremism and offered the Council of Europe's expertise and support.


Topics for discussion include cooperation between Greece and the Council of Europe and current issues in Greece.
