Council of Europe steps up cooperation with Morocco

Strasbourg, 29.05.2013 - The Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers has accepted Morocco’s request for observer status at the organisation’s European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ).

Since last year, CEPEJ has been working closely with the Moroccan authorities to help evaluate how the country’s legal system works and provide guidance on reform. This forms part of a wider Council of Europe programme – together with the European Union – to help strengthen the independence and efficiency of legal systems in Morocco and Tunisia.

Morocco will now join Israel as only the second non-European country to enjoy observer status at CEPEJ.
