25 October - European Day of Civil Justice

European Day of Civil Justice

On 5 June 2003, the Ministers' Deputies of the Council of Europe decided to launch a European Day of Civil Justice, jointly with the European Commission.

Celebrated yearly on 25 October by member states organising a series of events in this framework, this manifestation aims to bring justice closer to citizens, to inform them on their rights through simulation of procedures and information sessions open to students, professionals of justice and general public and also through open doors to their courts.

The Council of Europe and the European Commission invite their member states to inform them of all events organised in this context. European citizens can find out about events once the Secretariat has been notified of them.

2012 edition

The Secretariat of the CEPEJ and the representatives from the European Commission will participate in the main event, which will take place in Vilnius (Lithuania) on 25 October 2012, in presence of the Minister of Justice of Lithuania, Mr Remigijus Šimašius.

On this occasion, the 2012 “Crystal Scales of Justice” Prize will be awarded by the Council of Europe and the European Commission.
