“Guaranteeing the long term effectiveness of the European Court on Human Rights at national level”

The Albanian Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe organised on 5 October 2012 in Tirana a workshop on certain aspects of the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights at national level, as a follow-up to the Brighton Conference.

The seminar brought together government agents from Council of Europe member States and representatives of Supreme Courts, as well as representatives from international non-governmental organisations. The Albanian Minister of Justice, Mr Eduard Halimi, highlighted the need for the establishment of a fair, flexible and open dialogue between the European Court of Human Rights and the State Parties, in order to achieve an efficient implementation of the European Convention of Human Rights.

The results of this workshop will be taken into consideration by the Steering Committee for Human Rights, with a view to further elaborating policies for the protection of human rights and the reform of the European Court.
